Dear Mr Herriot
You may remember my mentioning that I am presently struggling my way through the DLA Benefit Appeal process. Once again they have raised that old spectre of ‘psychiatric illness’ to account for my disability (i.e.; that there is really nothing wrong with me). Their mercenary GP, masquerading under the guise of an independent medical advisor, actually wrote about me sleeping in my garden shed because I believe that “…germs from paints will do me harm.”. Ha!
My visit to you is documented in the appeal papers and the Tribunal Members have already expressed an interest (at the last postponement) in anything you might have to say regarding my condition. I understand that the results of the 2nd batch of blood tests are still some way off but I would greatly appreciate it if you could confirm to me, meantime, in writing, (at your earliest convenience), the following simple facts:
* That you have seen me professionally twice to date and intend seeing me again in the near future.
* That in the first batch of blood tests some abnormalities where found.
I know you must be an incredibly busy man Doc and I hate to trouble you with this but I really am between a rock and a hard place here. A simple brief letter from you would be of great help. And if you also felt able to lend your opinion to the non-psychiatric view of the M.E. illness then that too would, of course, be most welcome.
Well. gotta go. The “paint-germs” are beginning to get at me again (the little buggers). And anyway, I think I feel another long, long, bout of symptom- fixating coming on… :-)
Thanks for your interest and help to date Doc.
Yours sincerely
G McHendry
