Your decision not to reply personally in writing to my Recorded Delivery letter to you of 22-05.03, in which I inform you of my impending DLA benefit appeal tribunal hearing on 11-06-03 and ask for copies of certain essential medical evidence documents from my file, is totally unacceptable. To simply advise me in such a leisurely way, via your receptionist’s brief letter [dated 28-05-03, sent second class, and only reaching me on 31-05.03], to make a “double appointment” to see you at the surgery [soonest available 24-06-03] is, quite frankly, reprehensible. Had you deliberately set out to substantially damage my chances of a positive appeal tribunal result you could not have done it any better that this.
For the final time I am asking you for prompt copies of the following medical evidence documents from my file:
1. All documents sent and received between you and the ARI Consultant Dr Seaton regarding my voluntary offer for double-blind placebo based testing for Multiple Chemical Sensitivity [MCS] physiological responses to controlled triggering chemical exposures.
2. All documents sent and received between you and the ARI Consultant Immunologist Mr Herriot regarding the re-appointment with him that I requested of you over a year ago, and which Mr Herriot himself invited at the end of my last series of appointments with him.
3. All documents sent and received between you and the medical officer of the local council housing department responsible for awarding “medical priority” housing points [last year only 6 from a possible 30].
Failure by you to once again provide copies of these essential “medical evidence” documents, in a reasonably timely manner, will force me to initiate immediate legal action for their recovery.
Furthermore, I also asked you for a clear written medical
refutation of the previous tribunal’s ridiculous conclusion that you, I, and
three respected medical consultants based in ARI are, and always have been,
wrong about me actually suffering from M.E and MCS – claiming instead, as they
did, that I “only thought” that I suffered from them. I strongly contend that I
am entitled to have you medically substantiate the diagnosis of M.E. [which
includes MCS] given to me by the three ARI consultants detailed in my previous
letter to you, and I am asking you again here for that “substantiation” in
writing, along with the other documents asked for, at your very earliest
convenience.
I am deeply sorry that your own personal difficulties in coming to terms with the realities of the M.E./MCS illnesses have degraded our doctor/patient relationship to the extent where extreme measures such as legal action have to be seriously considered - simply to obtain from you that which should be freely given.
I am also sick to the back teeth of repeatedly ‘footing the bill’ - in a whole range of ways - for the “credibility problems” that you have with the day to day realities of my illnesses. Piss or get off the pot Doc. If you can’t or won’t hack it with the challenges of M.E./MCS then please stop making me your scapegoat - and pass the opportunity on, via the local health board, to some other GP who might be interested in honestly confronting these medical paradigm-busting illnesses without seeking refuge in endless credibility problems or thumb sucking ideas of some kind of mental illness.
We have come a long way together Doc. I hope you can find the courage to stick with me here right to the end of this modern plague problem that is M.E/MCS. But it would have to be a partnership – not the old unilateral - dictatorial stuff reintroduced of late. The M.E. and MCS illnesses are physiologically real Doc - with no more psychological overlay than any other seriously disabling disease. And I truly suffer from both of them in a rather severe way. If you are afraid to buy fully into that for fear that you may come some kind of a cropper further down the line then, please, bow out now - because I am no longer strong enough pay the price of your fears any longer.
Once, during one of you home visits to me, you called my shed-situation “unbelievable”– and that I think has always been the problem. But it is your problem – not mine. I have nothing to hide here – that’s why I write a lot.
